Police Investigating Lahaina ‘Stranger Danger’ Incident

Maui Police Department officers are investigating a “stranger danger” incident that took place in Lahaina on Monday between 7:15 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.

Police say an 11-year-old female was walking with another 6-year-old female on Lahainaluna Road near Kelawea Park when they were approached by a vehicle.

An unknown male reportedly exited the vehicle while holding a bat and told the 11-year-old female to come over and that he would take her to school. The male grabbed the female by her jacket and pulled her to him.

According to police, a bystander yelled at the male and the female was able to run away. The male ran after her and tried to pull her back to the vehicle. She was able to pull away again and ran away with the 6-year-old female.

The male got back into the vehicle and drove away. The female reported the incident to her mother who reported it to police.

The male is described as in his late 20’s to early 30’s in age, average height and a slightly heavy build with dark hair. He was wearing black shoes, black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The vehicle is described as a newer model black or dark grey four-door sedan, possibly a Honda. Unknown plates.
